Introducing... Hannah Kate Simon
Hello and welcome to my profile! I am 17 years old and I have always loved theatre, and have been singing since first grade. My first musical was when I was in 5th grade- The Wizard of Oz. The following year, I landed a lead role as Chip in Beauty and the Beast, being the first 6th grader to ever have a lead in any of my high school's musicals. In 8th grade, I performed the role of Pepper in Annie.
My freshman year in high school, I auditioned for one of my dreams roles- Rizzo in Grease. After several intense rounds of callbacks, I was chosen for the role. It was an amazing opportunity to improve my acting skills by playing a very sarcastic (and somewhat riske) character. Though it was difficult to get the Brooklyn accent down, as well as the attitude, I shone on the stage, loving every minute of it, as well as becoming one of the audiences' favorite characters.
Last year, I was placed in one of my most challenging roles ever. As Hattie in Kiss Me, Kate, I had an extremely difficult voice range- from a G3 to an E5. This role, though only a cameo, gave me the opportunity to play a character very different than any I've ever played. I spoke in a Southern accent, and my director instructed me to improvise several of my lines myself. They proved to be very successful, leaving the audience laughing as I exited the stage.
My school's spring musical production this year is Fiddler on the Roof. Although I auditioned for Yente, I was placed in the role of Golde because, as my director told me, if I was Yente, we wouldn't have a strong Golde. So that made me feel good about myself :) I am also our production's assistant music director, being the accomplished musician that I am.
I have been in several other musicals including Once Upon a Mattress, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, and The Music Man. Also, I have done several Dinner Theatres, attended County Chorus, and am an active member in the high school chorus and showchoir, often accompanying the group on the piano which I have played for over 8 years. This past winter I was accompanist for County Chorus. I am also involved in band, County Band, marching band, jazz band (on piano),and have attended many other band festivals, where I have played the alto, tenor, and yes, even the bari sax (by setting it on my feet in order to play!) . I have participated in several summer theater camps, including one through IUP's Honors College. In those camps I have had leads and several speaking parts. Last summer I attended a drum major acadamy. I also can play the trumpet, guitar, and cello.
I was chosen for District Chorus this year, and am moving on to Regional Chorus.
