Introducing... Monika Valkunaite
You could say I’ve found my path to musical theatre in a sort of reverse, unusual way.
I had the passion for it ever since I can remember. But it was not easy to keep myself informed, because of my country's Soviet history and lack of opportunities.
I’d like to be one of those young people who’d help raise the cultural level of my country and bring in the passion and knowledge that I’m trying to develop abroad.
Already as a teenager I was searching my path and thinking about theatre (which I attended in an amateur level). After some years I found myself studying music. Ending up with jazz studies in Italy I got to know musical theatre closer: started dancing, singing opera.
Even studying jazz I’ve always been attracted to older type of jazz: swing and big band era of the time when Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers or Cyd Charisse were one of the major stars.
