| Synopsis: |
The play is one of Shakespeare's most original and fantastical plays. When King Cymbeline's only daughter, Imogen, secretly marries against his wishes, the king banishes his daughter’s young groom, Posthumus, from his court. While banished to Rome, Posthumus runs into a lecherous Roman, Iachimo, who tricks him into believing that his new bride is unfaithful. Posthumus orders his servant, Pisanio, to kill Imogen and sinks into despair. Meanwhile, Imogen flees from her wicked stepmother, and the queen's loathsome son, Cloten, into the wild forests of Wales where she discovers King Cymbeline's long lost sons. As war between Rome and Britain looms, Imogen and Posthumus find the courage to face their enemies, families, and themselves. |
