| Synopsis: |
In the Pulitzer-prize-winning play that made David Mamet famous, four ruthless real estate salesmen vie for precious new leads in a sales contest. The aging Shelly, once the top man, has fallen on hard times. His confidence belies his underlying desperation for money to help his gravely ill daughter. Ricky, younger and cockier, now rules the roost, and demonstrates his sales technique by trying to swindle James, a meek customer. Meanwhile, Dave and George plot to steal the leads from the office manager. Glengarry Glen Ross is full of Mamet’s signature language – terse, explosive, and profane. The play offers a look at the sad, seedy, and cutthroat world of the commissioned salesman, while exploring one of Mamet’s favorite themes – the individual’s fight against the cruel, unfeeling world of American business. |
