The play Anastasia is set in Berlin in 1926. In this mystery, a young suicidal woman is taken by a group of Russian exiles that hatch a plan to collect money from the Bank of England by having this woman pose as the heir to the Russian throne. In the process, her captors wonder if she may be the real Anastasia after all. The mother to the fallen czar must make the final decision as to whether this young woman is or isn’t Anastasia. This story is based on the true rumor that the youngest daughter of Nicholas, last Tsar of Russia, escaped the execution of the rest of the royal family.
