Andrea Chenier tells the story of two commoner men who love the same aristocratic girl, Maddalena, during the time of the French Revolution. When the opera begins, Gerard is a servant for Maddalena's family. Later, he become a leader of the Revolution. Throughout all these experiences, he has remained in love with Maddelena. When he enlists the help of the spy, Un Incredible, he discovers that Maddelena has fallen in love with his friend and fellow revolutionary, Andrea Chenier. After a duel between Gerard and Chenier, Chenier is forced to flee. In the end, both Chenier and Maddelena are put to death.
