A Raisin in the Sun tells the story of an African-American family, the Youngers, living and struggling on Chicago's South Side in the 1950s. The play opens with the family receiving a $10,000 insurance check made payable to Lena (Mama) Younger because of the death of her husband. The family has always been poor and each member wants to do different things with the money. After quarreling with each other, the family ends up moving to a wonderful new home the formerly all white community of Clybourne Park to begin a new life. |
