Backstage Productions is a local volunteer theater company in Williamsburg, VA. Founded and directed by Naomi Marrow, the Company tends to do between seven and fifteen productions a year, including productions featuring the younger members.
Marrow teaches theater classes to all ages on Friday nights at the Olive Branch Christian Church.
Rehearsals for the larger-scale productions are on Friday nights and on Sunday afternoons, with smaller production rehearsals being on Thursday nights. Friday night rehearsals are held at the Olive Branch Christian Church, which has donated their space for our use for a countless number of years. Sunday afternoon rehearsals are held at the James City County Library. Thursday night rehearsals are at Marrow's home. Performances are at the Williamsburg Regional Library Theater unless otherwise stated.
Every year, Marrow directs A Christmas Carol, which goes up at the beginning of the holiday season, usually during the first weekend of December. It has become a Williamsburg tradition, with a local newspaper stating that the holiday season does not begin until Backstage Productions performs A Christmas Carol.
Every other year, Marrow directs Godspell with the current group of high-school and older students. She also has done a couple of special productions of Godspell, including an all-male cast plus one female (the Mary Magdelene character) and an all-college cast.
