Supply teaching - how does it work?

What do i need to be a supply teacher? i have a degree in drama and i have been into a number of schools doing drama sessions with pupils yet i cant seem to get in to any agencies? Do i need QTS to be a supply teacher?

Also, is it possible to get a mortgage if you work as a supply teacher?
