I don't think you are going to get very far with this project. A TV remote works by sending a sequence of pulses of infra-red light. To make something useful out of the Project signal you need an infra-red receiver and a programmed computer chip which decodes the sequence of pulses and gives an appropriate output. If you have not already got the necessary electronic construction and programming skills, it is going to take you a long time to acquire them.
