What is the difference between a dentist and an oral surgeon

Postby elvina on Wed Jul 03, 2013 6:29 am

So I went to the dentist last week and they told me I have to see an oral surgeon because the tooth is curved or something like that. What is the difference? Also will they do anything different to pull the tooth or do they just have different tools to use? I'm confused, someone please tell me the difference.

The main difference between a dentist and an oral surgeon is that the oral surgeon undergoes more training and performs more sophisticated procedures. A dentist is sufficient for most of your oral care needs. The skills of an oral surgeon are required only in special circumstances.
