A Stoker would have worked in the Tsar’s palace and, as the name suggests, would have tended to the fires to keep the palace warm. In act four, Marta is taken seriously ill, and poisoning is suspected. Everyone is waiting to hear the Tsar’s judgement on who is responsible.
