Context
Ferdinand, son of King Alonso, has been separated from his father and the other royals in the shipwreck. He believes himself to be the only survivor, and found his way to Prospero’s cell, where he was immediately put to work. Prospero’s daughter Miranda is fascinated by Ferdinand, as she has never seen another man besides her father, and falls in love with the young prince. He reciprocates the feelings, and Prospero watches them, cautiously but with some approval for the potential relationship.
