Context
The British have declared war on Germany. As volunteers are mustered to go overseas, Ted Narracott sells Joey, his son Albert’s horse, to Major Nicholls. In this scene, Albert protests, and desperately tries to convince Major Nicholls that Joey is unfit to be in the war because he once kicked Ted. However, Nicholls expertly calms Albert and promises to take care of Joey, and assures the boy that he can buy the horse back after the war is over.

Start:
ALBERT: Yes he did [kick]--that means he’s not right for the army, don’t it? He’s got a nasty streak!
NICHOLLS: Young man--come--that’s an order. If you ever want to serve you’d better get used to obeying orders.
ALBERT: Sir.
[... … …]
End:
ALBERT: Keep that hundred pounds to buy him back when the war’s over. How much will it be to buy Joey back?
NICHOLLS: I can’t say, yet.
ALBERT: That money’s for Joey.
