Frank Wedekind was a German playwright who influenced expressionism and the development of Bertolt Brecht's Epic Theatre. His work often criticized the repressive social attitudes towards sex and sexuality. His most popular play, Spring Awakening: A Children's Tragedy, was the foundation of the 2006 musical by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater.
